The following arrangements will be in place at HMP Peterborough during the further period of national restrictions up to 2 December.
All prisons have been instructed to suspend social visits with immediate effect for the duration of the latest national restrictions. This is to protect the safety and wellbeing of our staff, our residents and their loved ones in the community. Some visits may be permissible on compassionate grounds, but this will be at the discretion of the Director and any applications should be made by residents.
We continue to provide additional methods of maintaining the all-important contact with family and friends through the Email-A-Prisoner service, traditional post and telephone calls, as well as access to the Purple Visits video call system, which is free to all eligible residents. We have increased the number of Purple Visits sessions we are able to facilitate each day to help more residents have contact with their loved ones.
Legal visits are not suspended during this period, however the use of telephone and video call visits are strongly encouraged to safeguard all parties.
Our focus for residents will be on maintaining a purposeful regime, delivered in a Covid-19 safe way during this period.
In addition to wing-based regimes, we will continue to offer offending behaviour programmes (currently only within the female prison), the limited work activity that has already been approved for delivery, one-to-one education and small faith groups on the wings. Partner agencies who are key to supporting residents will be able to continue to attend the prison, dependent upon their own organisational arrangements and decisions. Peer support work that is in place will continue, providing essential support to residents.
Essential medical appointments, transfers and court appearances will continue to be facilitated.
We continue to review our regimes, taking into account the local and national situations, to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as possible during these challenging times.
Thank you for your continuing understanding as we work together through this period of national restrictions.
